Your physical, mental and emotional well-being are key contributors to a successful summer at NYU. This week’s blog focuses on the wellness related resources available to you as a visiting student. If you are taking six credits or more, remember that your Summer in NYC student immunization forms are due by May 15! If you have not yet submitted these, please visit the Student Health Center website or email firstname.lastname@example.org with completed forms or any questions.
STUDENT HEALTH CENTER
NYU’s Student Health Center (SHC) is a campus resource and service center for all matriculated students. Appointment-based and walk-in medical and counseling services are available at either no cost or a very reduced cost to all NYU students, regardless of insurance coverage. Their goal is to add great value to the NYU experience for students and great comfort in knowing that a safety net for basic healthcare exists at NYU. You can find additional information about health alerts, student health insurance, medical services, counseling services, and health promotion online.
NYU WELLNESS EXCHANGE
The NYU Wellness Exchange is a 24-hour private hotline where you can speak with a counselor to discuss any health or mental health concerns. The hotline is also available if you just need to talk or are feeling lonely. College can be stressful, especially in a new environment. Feel free to utilize the hotline by calling 212-443-9999 at any time.
MOSES CENTER FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
The Henry and Lucy Moses Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD) determines qualified disability status and assists students in obtaining appropriate accommodations and services. CSD operates according to an Independent Living Philosophy and strives in its policies and practices to empower each student to become as independent as possible. Their services are designed to encourage autonomy, backed by a strong system of supports.
Any student who needs a reasonable accommodation based on a qualified disability is required to register with the CSD for assistance (preferably one month prior to attendance). Please email email@example.com for further information.
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
The NYU Department of Public Safety provides security for all students, staff, and faculty on the University’s campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Officers are stationed in buildings and patrolling campus to ensure that students feel safe and comfortable. Officers are also available at all times via the Public Safety Hotline (212-998-2222 – add it to your contacts now!) and in person at their command center at 7 Washington Place. As NYU is “in and of the city,” and you will likely be exploring beyond the limits of Greenwich Village, we encourage all students to review Safety in the City tips.
